Hi Bacula'ers
Did some of you are going to the FOSDEM (www.fosdem.org) during 6,7 February
2010
in Brussels.
Don't miss the 5th free-beer night event too.

I note that it is possible to run clone jobs by using "Run = in the Job resource.
What I would like to do is make 2 tapes (Volumes) that are exact copies,
but with only one catalog entry, used if either tape is restored.
1. Does cloning acheive this?
2. Can cloning be performed on a single dri
I think the email issue was the problem. The jobs ran last night. More as I
figure this out. Everyone, thanks VERY much for the help.

Hi everybody,
the cleanest way I found was a script to stop and export the VMs on a
local (to VM server) disk and rsync them on a bacula server disk. In this
manner we can move the VM on another VMserver and save it on tape using
bacula.
I tried also to use the VMWare NFS in order to export dire

I'm in the same boat, with fewer tapes, but more slots in the
library.

Hi folks,
I'm sure this may have been asked a few times but here I go again!
What is the proper and safe way to re-assign tapes/old volumes from a

I have about 100 tapes. My tape library holds only 10 tapes.
How do you decide which tapes to load into the library? What strategy do
you use?
Here is what I came up with.
For simplicity, all my tapes are in a single pool. I'm guessing I want
the tapes with the oldest LastWritten value. Some
I've got the VM backup, but I need more velocity when I restore the machine..
I have 3 ESXi in separate city, obviusly without HA, and a bacula
server in every place..

I've managed to get my bacula install up and running pretty well. What I
want to do now, is to divide up where I store my backups, because some
are not as important as others. For example, I want to store all our
current working data in a different place to the default.
Do I create a new volume
I think there are two schools of thought.
1. Run FD on the host and backup a snapshot of the running VM's storage.
2. Run FD in the VM and backup as any other machine.
The advantages of 1 are simpler backup and faster, simpler restore in a
disaster recovery situation. The disadvantages of 1 are
I have an existing Bacula system which uses a single tape drive. I
recently added a tape library to that system. The goal is to use the tape
library when I'm going to be away for a while. However, when I'm home,
I'd rather use the single tape drive.
Is there a way to say:

Hi all,
I would like to backup my virtual machine VMDK on ESXi 3.5
There's a way to do it with the machine on and I have a consistent bck?
What kind of change I have to do?
Otherwise.. I can make a hot clone of my VM and backup it?

you can restore single file, ther's no problem on this, the problem is

minutes until I killed bconsole (BTW no idea why I have to press Ctr+C

Hi All..
I want to use bacula for backing up mailboxes(IMAP) /var/vmail/
If I use incremental backups(assuming i start backing up on Monday) & on
thursday i deleted an important file, then I can only restore that file from the
full monday backup.
Prob is if that important file came on tuesday
