I'm trying to determine that status of some of my tapes and I'm a little
confused on the output. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks,JJ
[root@scrappy bacula]# ./bin/btape -c bacula-sd.conf /dev/nst0
Tape block granularity is 1024 bytes.
btape: butil.c:284 Using device: "/dev/nst0" for writing.

I guess you won't know until you try it.

Hi all
I have a bacula setup now that seems to work well after some initial problems.
Now, running 5.0.1 from Ubuntu Lucid (10.04), the director dies if an FD dies
during backup. Does anyone know if this is a known problem? I would like to
stick to Ubuntu packages if I can't avoid it...

I'm backing up our home directories, about 10TB. I haven't really
timed things out yet, so I'm not sure if a full backup would finish in
time. But its the schedule the boss wants.

I'm not looking for a RTFM response, but I am looking for advice on my new,
much needed Bacula setup.
I have 4 linux servers (we will call them Web, File, Mail, Dev) and a Windows "server" with a set of
2 rotating usb drives that are swapped twice a month. This is what I want to accomplish:

Sorry for showing my lack of understanding. Anyways thanks for the
insight, but now I'm stuck on the scheduler syntax. If I want to run a
full backup every other weekend, would I use the following?
Schedule {
Run = Level = Full 1st Fri 19:00
Run = Level = Full 3rd Fri 19:00
Run = Level = Different

No, not at all. Why would you think that?
Here's how the levels work:
FULL - Back up ALL files, regardless of modification date.
DIFFERENTIAL - Back up all files

Why is there both incremental and differential? I thought they were

I'd like to run incremental backups twice a week, but also need full
backups done every two/three(TBD) weeks. Is there a way to do this
without setting up a full and then an inc backup job? Because that
would lead to 'two' backup catalogs from which to pull a restore from?

Hello all,
I have been asked to make an emergency purchase of hardware and software
for my district. (about 9am we had the tape drives fail..)
I have two sets of backups going for 15+ FreeBSD servers. One being
done by BackupPC for myself and another on Windows software for State
Compliance.

Hi, I'm using bacula 5.0.2 on debian lenny.
I have this directort definition
Director {# define myself
Name = control-station-director
DIRport = 9101# where we listen for UA connections
QueryFile = "/etc/bacula/scripts/query.sql"
I've read that update "Long Termin Statistik" should do the job.
But never tried that ;-).
