Hi,
Turns out it was the drive in the library, we had the drive replaced and
backups will run now, I just have to work out the backup errors now to
get them to complete. :-)

Yeah see the below output from lsscsi
lsscsi -g
[8:0:0:0] tape HP Ultrium 5-SCSI Y6PW /dev/st1 /dev/sg40
[9:0:0:0] tape HP Ultrium 5-SCSI Y6PW /dev/st0 /dev/sg38
[9:0:0:1] mediumx HP MSL G3 Series 9.40 /dev/sch0 /dev/sg39
