Hello,

I just wanted to let any of you who may be using the SVN know that in order to
fix the Storage daemon to remember where tapes were last used to avoid
unnecessary moving of volumes from one drive to another (mostly seen in
autochangers), I had to modify handling of the device control record (DCR).

This kind of change, particularly to this record, has a rather major effect on
the code, and so I wouldn't be surprised to find a few remaining cases of seg
faults in the SD as a result of this change.

The downside is that it might take a bit longer than I had foreseen to ensure
that the code is really solid (another couple of weeks).

The upside is that once I finish "tuning" the code, the SD should make much
more efficient re-use of drives than it previously did, and the proper
structures now exist to easily implement drive switching during a job.

Bottom line, I encourage as much testing as possible, because at this point,
that is what is needed, and I have thoroughly tested the code with lots of
regression testing, but be aware that the SD may be less stable than
previously (unfortunately the regression tests don't cover *everything*).

Best regards,

Kern
