Bobby McFerrin (in Austria most well known not only for his one-hit-wonder "Don't worry, be happy" but also as excellent conductor of the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra) has discovered an interesting behaviour of any audience in the world: People tend to use the pentatonic scale. Some kind of universal musical alphabet. Watch Bobby McFerrins experiment at the world science festival (June 2009, NYC). Looks like he is using the audience as an instrument!
