Dear Friends,

In memory of Baha'u'llah on this Holy Day, commemorating His Ascension on May
29, 1892, the recollections of his Son, 'Abdu'l-Baha, and His grandson, Shoghi
Effendi, provide a glimpse of His station and service in this world of dust.

Shoghi Effendi wrote, "He was formally designated Baha'u'llah, an appellation
specifically recorded in the Persian Bayan, signifying at once the glory, the
light and the splendor of God, and was styled the "Lord of Lords," the "Most
Great Name," the "Ancient Beauty," the "Pen of the Most High," the "Hidden
Name," the "Preserved Treasure," "He Whom God will make manifest," the "Most
Great Light," the "All-Highest Horizon," the "Most Great Ocean," the "Supreme
Heaven," the "Pre-Existent Root," the "Self-Subsistent," the "Day-Star of the
Universe," the "Great Announcement," the "Speaker on Sinai," the "Sifter of
Men," the "Wronged One of the World," the "Desire of the Nations," the "Lord of
the Covenant," the "Tree beyond which there is no passing." -- God Passes By

Describing the significance of Baha'u'llah, 'Abdu'l-Baha wrote, "And among His
signs is the sublimity of His grandeur, His exalted state, His towering glory,
and the shining out of His beauty above the horizon of the Prison: so that
heads were bowed before Him and voices lowered, and humble were the faces that
turned His way. This is a proof never witnessed in the ages gone before. Again
among His signs are the extraordinary things He continually did, the miracles
He performed, the wonders appearing from Him without interruption like the
streaming down of His clouds -- and the acknowledgement, even by unbelievers,
of His powerful light. By His own life! This was clearly verified, it was
demonstrated to those of every persuasion who came into the presence of the
living, the self-subsisting Lord. -- Selections from the Writings of
Abdu'l-Baha (Haifa: Baha'i World Centre, 1982 imprint) p. 16. E-text from Ocean
Library, http://www.bahai-education.org

The photos in this beautiful flash presentation were taken at Bahji on May 29,
2004. It is orchestrated with a prayer revealed by 'Abdu'l-Baha, set to music
by Persian Baha'i artist, Narges. It expresses the truth that without pain and
sacrifice there will be no reward nor progress. "Not until you burn,"
'Abdu'l-Baha admonishes, "will you become enkindled."
