*Beware of Using Taxi * An employee who was on her way home was robbed inside a taxi on 27th July. The incident took place in the South of Jakarta at Jl.Simatupang area around 6 pm. Although she was not harmed she was forced to cash her ATM savings. The robber took her money, phone, jewelry and more importantly her wedding ring. Our employee who was in a rush to go home took a taxi at around the Ragunan-Simatupang junction. After waiting for a Blue Bird taxi for a while she decided to take another Taxi which she initially thought a Blue Bird one. After a few minutes driving the driver moved the car to the side on the excuse of fixing his shoes. Once the car was at side of the road, two men went in to the car, and told her that they would not harm her if she followed their instruction. She was released at Depok area and returned home at around 8.30 pm after the robbers took some 3.7 Million rups from the ATM, phone, jewelry and more importantly her wedding ring. The physical appearance of the taxi *looks like* Blue Bird, the driver put his taxi driver's identification reversed, and the doors have been modified so that it can't be opened from inside. It was apparent that the taxi driver was a member of the robbers. *Lessons Learnt* - Beware! use recommended taxi. Use Silver Bird, or Blue Bird taxi for Jakarta and its surroundings. If feasible call the Taxi by phone. Silver Bird/Blue Bird phone : 021-7941234 Watch for abnormalities around you, and as you are entering the taxi - people around who may follow you. - abnormal condition of the taxi. e.g trunk, back seat. On one incident reported in the news paper, the robber hide in the trunk and entered the car through *(folding)* the back seat . - Driver's identification shall be clearly visible. It is normally put on the dash board in front of the passenger's seat Use back seat Lock the door before moving.
