RED FLAG for Speech Problem

Sometimes a child's failure to put two words together by the time he is 24
months old means nothing. Sometimes it means there is a problem.
According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, there are
some abnormalities that might reflect hearing loss, head injury, or other
conditions, and so call for a doctor's evaluation :

0-3 months
Does not listen to speech or does not make sounds repeatedly by cooing or
going.

4-6 months
Does not notice noisy toys, look for the source of sounds like the vacuum
cleaner, or attend to parents’ “no”

7-12 months
Does not babble either long or short groups od sounds such as ‘tata upupu
bibibibi’ and does not say a word or two, even unclearly. Does not respond
to her name.

1-2 years
Does not use on –or two- word questions (‘Where kitty?’), put two words
together (‘mommy book’) or listen to simple stories, songs, and rhymes.

2-3 years
Does not have a word for almost everything or use 2 –to 3- word
‘sentences’ to talk about and ask for things. Can’t understand differences
meaning (‘go’ and ‘stop’) or follow 2 requests (’get the book and put it
on the table’). Doesn’t notice environmental sounds such as a doorbell.

3-4 years
Does not hear when you call from another room, or understand simple
‘who?’, ‘what?’, and ‘where?’ questions. Cannot be understood by people
outside the family.

If delays persist until kindergarten, most pediatricians recommend speech
therapy.
