Hi Maximilian, That would be a way to do it indeed and I have looked at the eXist templ module too. It's not the direction I want to take though. My goal is to keep templates 100% free of templating hints or annotations. All logic will reside in xquery functions or xquery data structures. But

Nice! Looks clean and compact. I could also think of an additional declarative layer that integrates your approach with something similar to xquery templating in exist-db [1] I've already done a POC implementation of the exist-db templating way using basex. Essentially it is just stepping trough
