Somehow mail-aliases is getting to be an alist instead of an obarray.
This sounds like you're not loading mail-abbrevs.el at the correct time
or something.

I have a problem with bbdb 1.48. I just installed it and decided to use the
mail-alias feature.
I have a.o the following entries:
Dennis Gruijs - SP groep
net: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
timestamp: 21 Sep 93
mail-alias: sp-groep
