Any other ideas as to why the USB drops out?

Hello,
I am working on custom board based on Beagle Bone Black. The board has a
different PHY chip (DP83640). The PHY address is 31 (0x1f).
I have a issue with ethernet support in Linux kernel (3.8.13 Flattened

I don't see that fix as being the issue you are seeing. But, when they
are available, you can certainly give it a try.
The reset button is a warm reset button. It is not the power on reset for
the board.
I suggest that you use the power button as it is intended and use it to
power off the board
I would suggest that you reflash it to the latest version.

The USB stick is formatted FAT32. From my reading I understand that FAT32 does
not respond to chmod or chown. But that still leaves the question of how to
setup angstrom to accept desired permissions.
I did find out that forking another shell with the script as its argument (bash
I have not yet gotten parse-edid to work at all, and this is preliminary
research - I don't have a BBB on my desk yet, just a BBwhite. But yes, an
ounce of experimentation can be worth a pound of theory and I'll certainly
see what results I get by testing.

That is correct. The power button is only good for shutting it down with

UBoot uses the UART0 debug port on the header, J1, on the board.
