2) download (v 1.10) of chess.st.gz from

dunno if it's the same thing, but most squeak's have chess
pre-installed:
World objects games chess

I thought I had to type some magic sequence of commands in the Squeak
workspace!!

I recall the same problem with Chess in the 3.8 image for OS X
downloaded from squeak.org. In the image downloaded from
squeakland.org though, it works fine - even lets me win from time to
time. :)
