Yep. That's why I said it in the first place. It's venting. I never
actually SAY these things to people, and I'm always happy to answer
questions about my boat boys, but sometimes hearing the same comments
and questions DOES get tiresome. Nice to have a place to just snicke
After walking our two large males through a crowded tourist town, one day,
and having it take twice as long as it should, my friend had tee-shirts made
up that said, "Yes, he is a big dog."

Hi Beverly & Dear listers,
Interesting post about the pronounciation of "Berner sennenhund". I have no
idea what a Georgian accent sounds like - is it like Scarlett O'Hara's?
You are absolutely right: saying "bear-" then "-ner" is as about as close
as you can get to the European pronounciation o

Here's another perspective: I always try to educate people about the breed
if they ask, but why is it so terrible if they think your dog is a mixed breed?
Maybe they won't want one!
In my experience, most people's comments and questions about the dogs are not
said with malicious intent. P
During a conversation with my hairdresser (my bangs covered my nose-time for
a trim) yesterday made me realize that my pronunciation (you all) may be
questionable on the bernese/burmese issue. She also thought that it was

My favorite shirt to this day is the Berner-l t-shirt with the top ten answers to

My favorite answer to most everything is... 'more than you'd ever think.'
Do we still have these available for sale?

I used to be both amused by and slightly resent having my girls
mislabeled as St. Bernards, or mixes or some other corruption of

experience now. Now I walk my dogs and nearly everyone very

Me; No. Burmese are Cats and Snakes, and I dont have either one.
Q; Hey, I've never seen a black Saint Bernard before

That's okay, at least they think yours is a purebred Saint. I had someone
ask me once is Klarsson was a St. Bernard/Border Collie cross. Can you
imagine. I just hope the female was the Saint and not the BC. Ouch!!!

Well, we have some baseball cards that will help answer some of those

Hi John...I see you have both a Swissy and a Bernese. I have two Bernese, but someone
insisted the other day that I'd been misled and that my younger dog was "definitely a
Swissy." I tried to explain that my one-year-old had just totally blown her baby coat,
and wouldn't always look short-haired
Do you mind if I use your response to question 3? I really would love to
tell someone that with only a hint of sarcasm in my voice. They wouldn't
know they've been insulted...hehehehe...I love that. I agree with you
completely about the lack of general knowledge.

I just need to vent here for a second. Do any of the rest of you get tired of people saying the following regarding your dogs:
1. "Oh my gosh, he's so HUGE"
2. "What is he? Is that a St. Bernard? It sure looks like a St. Bernard!"
3. (Kids say this one) "Look, it's Beethoven!!!"
4. "Is that a
