I think the scanner should read the creation time and modification time. When scanning for new and changed music, it should look for modification times that are newer than the last scan time. The Creation timestamp should be used for ordering on Browse New Albums. This may not be full-proof,

Only if the tool edits the file in place, I have come across tools in the past that create a temporary file, copy the contents of the file making changes as it goes and then remove the original file. It which point your new file has identical creation and modification dates. :( --

Mp3Tag creates temporary files, but it still maintains the creation/modification times correctly. It's more likely to be correct - if a tool causes creation time to be touched to the same time as the modification time, then it's equivalent to reading the modification time. However, if a tool

Well if the database is out of sync with the server code then it needs to be rescanned - which is the logic that triggers this. Although it hits the cpu, players should still be usable? The problem is that the HD may be thrashed if it is busy doing something else. e.g. a virus scan, defrag or
