I've an updated beta out (1.0b6) that implements this new rescanning
method and so it should no longer cause these hiccups.

Unfortunately not. Came back home, turned on one Squeezebox, which in
turn woke up the server from standby, reconnected the other one to
SqueezeCenter (was on SqueezeNetwork). Activated the log option you
