Yes :) a German speaking person would find large chunks of any nordic
language (dk,no,se,icelandic) vaguely familiar and the oposite is also
true .

In text it is easier, spoken language differ much more.

with google and a lexicon at hand I can struggle trough some german
text, sometimes you get old technical manuals in my line of work.
