Easy enough to delete a playlist or two without doing a clear and
rescan, just a few clicks.

Thanks - so stupid I didn't see but I didn't get the idea of choosing

Yes and it also deletes the playlist files themselves !
But if your adding and removing or fixing your playlists with external
aplications or manually . The rescans should remove
