I just had the same problem after installing SSODS 3beta4 and Squeezecenter on my CS 407.
The scanner would not start! Then I deleted /volume1/SlimServer/CPAN/Compress/Zlib.pm as described on flipflip's page http://oinkzwurgl.org/ssods3 After that the scanner worked just fine.
