I think its main purpose really is to recognise that newer WHS users
might be quite novice users and it gives them an easy way of installing
the whole system with an easy learning curve.

the killer features are on the new build. Any reason to upgrade
yet would you say?
(as a complete aside, and it'll probably get lost in the thread, has
anyone tried touch or 770 on a Pepper Pad 3 yet? with Ir blasting as
well it could be the ultimate slim remote)

not that odd
i rip and tag using jriver
then use the headless server web interface to scan and validate (can do
it automatically using task manager)
then need a slim reload - but id prefer something automatic

having trouble making the musicmagic plugin reload the library and
consequently new additions are still not showing up.

- dont know
how many apple lossless users there are but the resultant white noise
may be damaging to speaker systems up at any volume - also caused
family to run screaming from the room. Possibly not necessarily a bad
thing...

same thing managed to stop it by leaving music folder empty and just
selecting ?use musicmagic? and doing a full rescan but that mmakes it
hard to add individual albums. there was a thread about this in
?general? i think
--
gandt
The only relevent thing i did recently was
to install (and then uninstall) some directshow codecs
(have tried both the 7.0 and the 6.5 running on Windows XP)

no its all on a nas server in a folder that has nothing but music...it
does stop scanning eventually but i get evrrthing duplicated. It was
fine but went wrong recently at firt i thought musicmagic but its not
enabled...
--
gandt
Removed lazy search plugin and then rescanned (clear and rescan) apart
from loads of duplicate entries no slow up. Am now installing latest
nightly with no lazy search in the plugins folder as final check but Im
pretty sure its to blame.
--
gandt
ok have now disabled lazy search plugin and done full wipe and
rescan...here are results
nearly all entries are duplicated
?new music? is taking only a couple of seconds
so tentatively i think there is an issue with lazy search
graham
--
gandt
before the scan is finished it takes only a
couple of seconds. Don't know why the behaviour should change - the
only thing that kicks in at that point is the Lazy Search plugin doing
its scan(i think) dunno if that could be connected...
graham
--
gandt
but i think it makes its own index so maybe ill also need to wipe and
rescan and that will take a while!

- anybody else got any suggestions as to what could be
causing the issue?
I dont have any sql skills but could probably follow instructions if
there is something i can investigate using database queries...
graham
--
gandt
Finally fixed the issue but it remains mysterious - installed last
nights 6.5 beta into an entirely new location
(J: slimserver) - working fine. Can only think that some legacy files
in the usual default location were not deleted via the previous
uninstall and affected the database.
--
gandt
obvious processes on the task window that are getting in

as an experiment when i click on new music i see that mysqld.exe
kicks in and out using 3% cpu - so its not stretched

I did have a (non functioning i thought) moodle installation (vle for
schools that uses mysql and apache) - could some of that still be
running and getting in the way? I does seem like i have something
slowing up the processes another database might be the problem

so Im thinking moodle - maybe when the slim database was first created
the other one being there affected it?
