This isnt directly related to the code itself, and I dont know if its
under your jurisdiction, but its perhaps time that the websites
of the file left over from the other RPM.
Replacing the file with the .rpmnew version and moving the contents of
the associated directories has fixed it.

to 1.2.1. Both provide
libFLAC.so.8, which would make them compatible without recompiling
anything else.
Anyway, I got the impression that it was just the flac binary that was
used by squeezecenter? Is the issue that some distributions don't
supply this?
