After upgrading to 6.2 I'm experiencing the same problem, only intermittently (with no obvious reason what is wrong).
All my compilations are under ".../Various Artists/<album>/<song>" so that should be OK. The ID3 tags (both v2 and v1) are all OK, yet slimserver randomly splits compilations into multiple albums.
