The installer, as I've noticed lately, seems to .. pause .. on the
"Creating Directories" point. It pauses there for a decent amount of
time, all the while the window does not refresh. Dragging other
applications over it causes the window to get washed out, and the
features in the form never redra

How much is decent? 10 seconds? 1 minute?

On my slightly aging computer, around 2 - 2.5 minutes. That's an Athlon
XP 2600+ with 1.5 GB of memory running windows xp pro. That's
installing on top of an already existing installation. I manually stop
the squeezecenter service before starting the installation, so that's
not the issue.

First time for installing 7.3 just now.
Installation screen stopped for over 22 seconds at "Creating
Directories". Nothing appeared to be happening at all... apart from
right at the end when the progress bar did its bit and everything
completed.

This has been happening for me for several months. I started noticing it
during the Boom beta testing when I was doing a lot of update
installations. On my system, the pause is probably between 30 seconds
and 1 minute. 7.2 and 7.2.1 on Windows Home Server.

Not sure if this is directly relevant, but Vista SP1 and Home Server
(possibly also XP) can sometimes hang on installation whilst creating
virtual directories. I've experienced this with other (beta) software.
Think there's even a KB article on it somewhere.

I know that yourself, MeSue, and I have discussed it here previously and
I thought that I'd filed a bug at one point, but apparently not. At
least I couldn't find it again.
