I've since moved the DB to a mySQL I already had running for Joomla + my
ERP-software and everything keeps working fabulously. Web interface is
snappy, songs play all day long without interruption ...
Needless to say, I'm quite happy again :-)

I'll have to try MySQL again in 7.6.0 on Windows. Maybe there have been
some unnanounced (or inadvertent) fixes.

I've never figured how to use the system MySQL as there is no obvius
settings in sbs, you probably have to edit a configuration file
somewhere

I've solved the problem anyway :)
In a totally unrelated post I read that we could switch to MySQL using
the web interface. I tried that and I have no problems anymore.
Seems SQLite + my ~44000 song collection + Server 2008 R2 are not a
good combination :D

Amazing ! it is usually so that Sqlite works and MySQL is broken in 7.6
Apparently Win 2008 server R2 is an exception off that rule.
