I find implicit rescans a pain in the butt! If a user wants to change a few options, he won't want a rescan to start before applying all of the changes. Once a scan is started, there's no stopping it! In my mind, it would be better if a warning was displayed (perhaps a pop up alert whenever a change button is pressed that requires a rescan). Then the user can decide whether to kick off the rescan immediately, make other changes and do the scan later, or revert the change.
