Jon, Can you temporarily run slim.exe from the command prompt and then try to reproduce the crash? Then you will have the error output from SS even after it crashes and that will help find the problem.
Alternatively add --logfile <filename> to the cmdow parameters passed to Slim.exe to save the output to the log file you specify.
