just incase you missed it.the autoperspective option already switches to ortho
when you use the set views with the numpad keys.
as for the view snapping with alt+mmb sure yeah that could make sense. didn't
actually know you could snap the view while rotating normally.

Hi,
IMHO auto-ortho or auto-persp are hacks. UIs should not try to think for users
or anticipate on what you think might be expected. Keep things simple and
atomic and in control. If that means you sometimes have to press an extra key
that's at least predictable, and much less irritating than
I've wanted auto-persp for alt+MMB since always. At least when I remember
that control exists.
I have a suggestion, instead of a hack where the setting is changed, we
should have (or have the option to have) two separate persp/ortho states
for regular 3D and fixed views. For the numpad 1/3/7 it
Thanks for your feedback ! Ton, I agree with what you say about UIs,
however the user keeps control as long as we're talking about an option
that has been checked on purpose. Nonetheless if that's your vision then I
won't interfere with it.

Fredrik, for some reason your mail had registered as spam. I am aware the
numpad keys switch to ortho view, however... well maybe something's off
with my workflow but I switch to ortho and back every five seconds or so
(in a modeling session) and I'd find it very relieving not to have to go
back
I'm also in favor of this option.
The solution for an UI that is guessing wrong what you want is an option
to turn on Auto-Orthographic in the Preferences, then the UI won't even
have to guess. The description of the function could be The view will
change to Orthographic when using Alt-MMB
Seems to me that 2 issues are getting conflated here.
- Is Auto-perspective a good default? (As agreed here:
https://developer.blender.org/T37518).
- Should auto-perspective option apply to view axis snapping (Alt
while orbiting the view).
The problem with axis snapping switching to ortho, is
I'm almost always in ortho camera. As long as this changes don't
interfere with that.. (setting perspective automatically at any
moment)

Hello!
I'm not sure if this is known, but I recently downloaded the Blender
v2.69.2 from the svn and compiled the debug 32 bit version.
Then, while working through the tutorial here

From what I know, 2008 Express has problems with debug builds. Have you
found the same behavior in recent builds? Try downloading one from

recreate the error. If you download the win32 build,
you'll need to rename iconv.dll to

Funny, I just downloaded the Win 32 bit version, Blender 2.70, and I got
an error when starting the application. The DLL libiconv-2.dll is
missing.I noticed this has been an on going problem.

Yeah, it's been doing that for a while. I have no idea how that started,
but it's at least fixable for the time being.
