Sometime last year ( I think) someone posted a video of new tools they
had made for edit mode. Things like extending a line until it
intersected a plane etc. I can't find info about this anywhere. Does
anyone here know or have any ideas about it?

Maybe you simply search the double G key ? Now when you press the G key two
times in edit mode, there is a guide line.
