I don't know if it is even possible to assign to keys to the same function using the current key-mapping system. That might explain why only one is used, and as someone else mentioned, on an American keyboard, it is much easier to do ctrl-shift-z then ctrl-y (with one hand). On Sat, Apr 16, 2011 a

I'll be te devil's advocate here since I find Ctrl-Shift-Z the easiest to use. Actually typing Ctrl-Y with one hand can be more difficult(You have to stretch your hand and find the key on the keyboard). Ctrl-Shift-Z allows you to quickly undo and redo without thinking about it too much. All three b

in blender 2.49 we had both variants ( ctr+y and ctrl+shit+z ) at least on windows based blender. According to wikipedia both variants are common place http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undo So i propose to add the ctrl-y back into the blender-standard startpage:
