What you can also do is replace the %a specifier in your autofill format with
%p. This will use the Editor field when the Author field is missing (e.g. for
the book type).

specified location, and does this location exist? And are all relevant fields
filled in the item for which you attach a PDF?

Just a quick follow-up: the preferences are still there under AutoFile, but it
doesn’t seem to be working. When I drag-and-drop a file, or right click and
select a file to attach, it just leaves the file in its original location.

automatically move the file and save a copy to a specified directory using the
