last year's successful `BioJava bootcamp' workshop -- an
introduction to the BioJava library for bioinformatics and
computational biology.

org.biojava.bio.taxa
There is a demo at:
demos/seq/TestSwissprotOrg.java
and I've added a seq io object to:
org.biojava.bio.seq.io.OrganismParser
There is some work to do - I think Taxa instances should be annotatable,

Is there currently any work being done on GCG formatted data in bio.seq.io?
I know there is a module within bioperl. Just curious before I started
working on one of my own.
