There has been a Red Headed Woodpecker at our feeders for the past 4
mornings. This is my first sighting in this area. The location is
Shingletown which is about 8 km west of Kitchener on Bleams road.

This morning at 9:15, I spotted what may be the first Kildeer of the season
at Muddy Creek at the Wheatley Harbour. I also would like to report 2 White
winged Scoters in the same location. Spring is upon us!

Yesterday, Sat. March 1, 2003 Stan Bajurny and I headed on down to the Long
Point area and despite the fog shortened day we did okay and following are
some of the hi-lites.
Along 14th Concession Rd (runs west from Townsend to Simcoe) we found a
Cooper's Hawk, 1 Red-bellied
4 White-winged Scoters were just off the western end of Ashbridge's Bay Park
at noon today. Nearby were a dozen
Redhead , a dozen Lesser Scaup, 3 pairs of Red-breasted Mergansers, 1 pair
of Common Mergansers, and the usual Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead,
Long-tailed ducks, Gadwall, Blacks

I had a nice birding morning today at Burlington-Hamilton area.
The highlight was a 1st winter male King Eider seen from Spencer-Smith
Park in Burlington. The bird was seen with a mixed group of White-winged
and Surf Scoters about 200m off shore (using a scope). The plumage was

the North West shore of Lake Ont. from Hamilton to Toronto today and
count the number of Grebes we could find.

With the possible re-appearance of the Red-necked Grebe in the St.
Clair River found by Blake Man yesterday, and the interesting details
provided by Bob and Glenda, it was a surprise to hear that yesterday,a
PIED-BILLED GREBE was picked up off the road on Hwy 21 between the Lambton
County
around 4.30pm at the mouth of little river at windsor marina (riverdale and
riverside drive), there was a 1st winter iceland gull mixed in with the huge
amounts of ring billed gulls. the area in front of peche island is still
packed with ducks and gulls, and today were all very active in the
