Hi All,
Headed down to the Long Point area today, stopping in at LaSalle Marina/Park in
Burlington. At the "Window to the Bay" which is an overlook just east of
LaSalle there was a winter plumaged Red-throated Loon. At LaSalle there were

Viewing conditions were perfect today at the East Lake boat launch in
Sandbanks PP. Enough ice had melted so that birds were not spooked by
birders but still stayed within 60-75 metres of the boat launch. Two greater
white-fronted geese were obvious standing on the edge of the ice among the

I can only speak for this southern part of Ontario, down to
Lake St Clair and up to Grand Bend.
The late Dennis Rupert and myself had a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE on the
same corn crib two years running on March 4th. many years ago at Mitchell's
Bay. They seem to move i

There have been two recent reports of possible Loggerhead Shrikes to
Ontbirds. It is not imposible to see one this early. However, I'd like to
caution observers that at this time of year adult Northerns mimic
Loggerheads in both appearance and behaviour, especially in March and

Here's one I need help with from the experts. At about 11:45 a.m. today at
Wheatley Harbour, I found a gull perched on a piling in the marina that
immediately had me thinking "California." It had a black spot on the bill in
addition to the red spot, a more rounded-looking head, and greenish-yell

It was sunny, but cool (-10C) and windy this morning at Thickson's
Woods (Thickson Road, south from Hwy. 401 East in Whitby). The Woods
were very quiet at first, except for a few of the usual suspects:
House Finch, Black-capped Chickadee, Grackle, Mallard, Mourning Dove,
American Crow.
