Sunday morning a single female red-bellied woodpecker was well seen at our
island west of Pointe au Baril in Georgian Bay. The island is about 40 km.
north of the town of Parry Sound. The bird was working on a dead pine tree for
5 minutes. It could not be refound before we left for Toronto later
This afternoon at Kopegaron Woods (2km west of Wheatley on Hwy 34/old 3)
there was a FOS ALDER FLYCATCHER. Also in Pelee today I had at least four
WILLOW FLYCATCHERS and one ACADIAN FLYCATCHER (Tildens Woods).

A beautiful sunny day but quiet for birds. Most of the warblers seem to have
left last night. Migrant warblers still present included Magnolia, Bay-
breasted, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Cape May and Canada. Singles
each of Blackpoll and Hooded reported.

Today, May 16, 2004, birded the sewage lagoons east of Ottawa.
Overall is was good with 1000+ Least Sandpipers and small of numbers of
Lesser Yellowlegs and a few Short-billed Dowitcher, Pectoral Sandpiper
and Wilson's Phalarope. Ruddy Ducks were observed at three different

About 9:30 this morning, Betsy and I stopped to bird the woods at Fort
Niagara State Park. As soon as we stepped out of the car, Betsy heard the
song of a Yellow-throated Warbler. Good thing it was singing because we
would not have looked where it was. We had very good scope views of the

This morning (Sunday) at 9am the Piping Plover was easily seen at Second
Marsh looking SW from the east platform. It was about half way across the
marsh on the mudflat associating with a Semi-pal Plover for good comparison.
There was also a Great Egret there.

Point Pelee Bird Report for May 16 (Sunday)
Despite the fact that we have now entered the 2nd half of May, migration is
somewhat at a standstill as far as numbers are concerned. The Tip area this
morning was not overly active, but to compensate for the low numbers were
numerous interesting spe
Yesterday a Wilson's Plover was found by Ken Williams at the Tollgate Ponds
in Hamilton Harbour. This bird continues to be present as of 10:00 a.m.. I
was able to view the bird this morning after a rather quick drive up from
Pelee. Our thanks to Ken.

I saw and heard a clay-coloured sparrow today around noon in the little
parkette on the south side of Sandalwood Pkwy., just west of Heart Lake Rd.
(410) in Brampton. It sat out in the open on a bush beside the path, quite
near the parking lot, for several minutes.
