Under the very capable leadership of Blake Mann and Maris Apse (both of
whom are away from their respective computers until late Sunday evening),
25 enthusiastic birders shared a very enjoyable day of early spring birding
and fellowship in
Migration slowed to a trickle today but a VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA, and ORCHARD
ORIOLE provided good views for some at Fish Point. Other were entertained by a
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH gleaning insects off the walls of the ancient lighthouse
like a Eurasian Wallcreeper.
The Pelee Island Bird
This morning a Worm-eating Warbler was located at Fifty Point Conservation
Area along the creek that runs down the middle of the park near the large
pond where the fishing pond is. The bird was seen in the north of the area
seen yesterday, north of the road which runs between the fishing pond and
I have just been watching a Red Headed woodpecker at my feeders this afternoon.
It is now 4:00pm and the beautiful Adult male with brilliant red head and pure
white rump was a sight to see at my suet feeder. Not very many Red Headed
Woodpeckers are seen up this way anymore.

Has anyone seen a Swainson's Thrush *anywhere* in Ontario this spring?
I don't believe there has been a report at Point Pelee, nor have I
noticed an observation for anywhere else in Ontario. None reported
anywhere in Ontario up to May 9 is certainly extraordinary, since by now
they should be all
Saturday, at about noon I found a Harris's Sparrow in a mixed flock of
White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows. I was able to get a few
photographs and observed it for several minutes before it move off through
the woods.
