Weather conditions were not amenable to a migratory hawk flight, but we had
several good songbirds along the path and at the platform-- notables were
KENTUCKY WARBLER, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, NASHVILLE W., ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK,
WILSON'S W., BLACK-THROATED GREEN W., CHESTNUT-SIDED W., AM.REDSTART. A
Birded today with my nephew Justin to look for what we called the "fab four"
specialty birds of Algonquin. We first arrived at the Spruce Bog Boardwalk
at 7:00a.m. before the crowds gathered and easily found 6 SPRUCE GROUSE.
Next stop was the north end of the Mizzy Lake Trail where we had 6+ BOREA
Monday, Aug 29, 2005: This morning there were 4 (possibly 6) Buff-breasted
Sandpipers at the flats north of Oliphant. Also seen 8 Baird's Sandpipers, 25
Black Black-bellied and 3 Golden- Plovers, lots of Semipalmated Plovers, 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper.
