WEEK ENDING Thursday, October 19, 2006
With a centimetre of snow on the ground (we got off lucky, compared to other

Hello Ontbirds people,
A NORTHERN WHEATEAR was discovered today, Oct. 19, at the Nepean Sailing
Club (a.k.a. Dick Bell Park) along the Ottawa River. It was reported to Bob
Cermak by a birder from the U.S. who he happened to encounter at Andrew
Haydon Park. Bob saw the bird @ 2:30 pm and promptly
The Brant observed since last Sunday afternoon at Riverside Park is still at
the beach. It was seen grazing yesterday in a soccer field 100m off the
beach. It is still there this afternoon as of 4:00 p.m.
Directions: Pembroke is located on the Transcanada HWY 17 between North Bay
and Ottawa,
For rather obvious reasons, not many birders have been out and about at
Presqu'ile Provincial Park in recent days, yet a number of interesting
birds were found by those who did venture out.
Large numbers of waterfowl are to be seen both in the marsh and in the
waters surrounding the peninsula.

This morning I observed at least 1 crane calling from
a field south of Florida Road east of Wilton. This
seems to be a regular stopover as I find them here
