I saw an Ovenbird around noon today, Jan 13 '07, at a private house in
North York. The bird was standing on the ground at the base of a cedar
tree beside the house, and making forays out into the garden. An
interesting bird on its own, even more so with the one being seen at
York University.
Nice birding day on the island today, a little windy/cool this am but
productive. Located one snowy owl on the KFN property which was viewed
outside the fence from the main road sitting on the ground. Several
raptors in various fields: red tailed; rough-legged; harriers. Several

The 29th Annual Vankleek Hill CBC was held on December 17 under unusually
mild conditions (max. of 9 degrees C) with no snow on the ground and little
wind. A record 14,520 birds were found by 43 observers. Previous record was

Sue and I were down near Mitchell's Bay again today. The waterfowl put on a
great show, but more interestingly there are three male snowy owls. They are
very white.
One was where there have been a couple reported in the past. It was on a

There was a surge in raptor activity this morning east of Ottawa.
It started at about 7:40am with two Rough-legged Hawks flying south
over the Ottawa River at Petrie Island.
