Today Ian Cannell, Jay Peterson and I birded some of the areas from Stoney
Creek to Nanticoke and a fine day it was.
We didn't arrive at the lake off Stoney Creek until noon and while there among
the low numbers of the usual suspects Jay spotted two adult male Black Scoters.

This afternoon we saw several Rough-legged Hawks along 5th and 7th Line
Roads. Also saw 2 N Shrikes, small flocks of S Buntings and H Larks, 1
Merlin. Saw several Red-tailed Hawks in areas adjacent to Hwy 96 east of
8th Line Road. Saw no Snowies. Checked area near ferry on south
shore...cha
There have been no reports from Amherst or Wolfe Island this week; I suspect
nothing much has changed over there except that the snowbanks are probably
so high that to bird from a vehicle would be very difficult. Everything is
pretty much frozen up so small areas of open water tend to attract those
The Algonquin Visitor Centre will be open on Saturday, Sunday,
and Monday this weekend, from 10 to 5. Birders should check the
feeders there, and at the West Gate.

Pine Grosbeak: Up to 40 are at the Visitor Centre feeders
daily, with a large number of adult males.
