Folks,
Today, there is a first winter Chipping Sparrow at my feeder at 37 Hughson
Street in Branchton, Ontario, N0B 1L0. This is the second sighting of this
bird in the last couple of weeks.

Yesterday (Feb 28/08) I observed 8 Bald Eagles in the area of Hamilton
Harbour immediately west and south of Canada Centre for Inland Waters
and the Ship Canal.
At one point 6 were sitting together on the ice quite near the SW corner
of CCIW property while another 2 were further away on the ice.
Both sides of Point Pelee remain iced in with no open water for several
kilometres to the south, east and west. Common and Red-breasted Mergansers
can be seen flying over the Tip, but the usual raft of waterfowl off the
East Beach at this time of year is not within visual range.
The flocks of ove
At -25C it is very hard indeed to think of spring although it is the time of
year when things should start to happen. I can't imagine that there is any
open water so those few foolhardy waterfowl that are still around will be
confined to the Dupont lagoon or the ferry channels to Amherst and Wolfe.
There were more observers this week, and consequently,
more sightings. An American Three-toed Woodpecker
was the week's unusual highlight species (see below).
Birders should check the feeders at the Visitor Centre, and
at the West Gate, which are the best sites for multiple
species at the moment.
