Port Burwell, ON
Today, two Whimbrels were seen foraging and preening at the mouth of
Big Otter Creek in Port Burwell.
One of these two is slightly crippled in one leg, and this bird was
seen as early as last Saturday on the Municipal East Beach in Port

This morning I joined Jan McDonald for another beautiful day on The Islands
and today was a good choice of days as we experienced a medium fall out of
birds on Wards Island and to a smaller extent on Hanlans Point.

The 7 plovers seen this morning are Juvenile Golden Plovers - they are
difficult to tell apart from Black-bellied juveniles except when
seen in flight - the black axiliaries that would identify them as
Black-bellied Plovers were absent when I got a closeup of them in

On Friday, we observed a flock of Canada Geese on the front lawn of the
Dupont Plant in Kingston, Ontario. One goose caught our eye -- unlike its
counterparts, it was smaller, had a brown rather than a black neck, and
overall, a more muted-brown body. Photos of this goose next to a Canada are
At 9:30a.m. today I located 2 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS at the north
end of the pond on the KFN Property at the east end of Amherst Island. Quite
often they can be seen right along the pathway, but these two were at northwest
side of the pond right beside the large snag, which requires
9.30 this am at Reesor Pond: 7 juvenile Black-bellied Plovers - the
pond lies just north of Hwy 407 on Reesor Road in Markham.
