Yesterday I had three Snowy Owls, likely males, interacting with each
other beside the runways at Pearson Airport in Toronto. Definitely a
good sign there are/will be lots of Snowies this winter.

Winter Listers:
Yesterday at dusk Jim Burk found 8 Greater White-fronted
Geese near Erieau. I needed those for my Winter List , so
went searching for them. They had moved into the Bay in
the village of Erieau, along with many Canada Geese.
They are easily seen today as there is very little open
I have contemplated writing this for some time. Now, with the recent discovery
of what is sure to be Ontario's 5th record of Slaty-backed Gull, and so many
birders in the province actively searching for this species, I thought it wise

The Hawk Owl at the end of Grandview road in Ottawa's west end was very active
this morning. The owl was continuously flying to and from various perches near
the homes (basically the backyard of the houses along Grandview) that line the

The 3rd Linwood CBC was held today, December 29, after an unsuccessful
attempt on Saturday in the fog. 54 species were recorded (plus 2 count week
to date), beating our previous totals of 46 and 49. 11 new species were
added to the list, bringing the total to 70 species. Here are the
highlights:

A second visit to Erieau this afternoon found that
the above geese have departed to parts unknown !
There is almost no open water at Erieau, so perhaps
they decided to go South!
I have been told that there have been 4 in the Pelee
area recently. Perhaps there are 12 now !

Hi local Ontbirders,
This afternoon I went for a drive around the Holland Marsh area to do
some birding.
At the deadend side of Ravenshoe Rd.(in Keswick) I discovered a heavily
streaked
Snowy Owl- most likely an immature or female- sitting on top of one of
roadside hydro
posts. Also seen in
A day tour of the west end of Amherst turned up 5 Snowy Owls. One on
the tree behind the township office just a km south of Stella, the
ferry terminus and 4 more along the south shore road towards the SW
corner of the island.
