A flock of approximately 50 white winged crossbills was seen in a single
spruce tree at approximately 3:30 pm Friday afternoon. The crossbills were
in the company of slate coloured juncos, and enjoying a feast of spruce

Hello ONTBirders:
I birded a couple of places across the Ottawa region, starting in Kanata. On
Gourlay Lane I spotted 14 PINE SISKINS and 8 COMMON REDPOLLS. No sign of the
red-shouldered hawk that traditionally overwinters there and was reported
earlier this week.

The Hawk Owl was still present at 9:30 this morning at its usual spot on Monck
Road east of Orillia, on the north side of the road a few hundred metres west
of Sideroad 20. The bird is easily visible from the road, at the top of a
large tree in the open field.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at
Spotted and photographed a Northern Shrike at windy ridge conservation area
(Jan 9). At the lookout point. Not much action otherwise

Hi All!
I wanted to give a little update for the park...it's been a while!
I went down and finally caught up with the Spotted Towhee early this
afternoon. It was immediately south of the washroom building at the Tip
today. There is a small patch of leaves that are not snow covered (this

The Spotted Towhee was still present at the 42nd Parallel sign at the park. It
was feeding with the Fox Sparrow and several American Tree Sparrows in a spot
clear of snow just behind the display pavillion just north of the sign. Also
found was a flock of about 400 Snow Buntings in the Onion
