Today while birding on the Niagara River I had the Slaty-backed Gull in the
same area it has been reported the last number of weeks. For those wondering,
it is above the falls below the Control Dam (the long structure that extends
well out into the river from the Ontario side), whic

My wife and I braved the bitter cold to check out a couple productive locations
in the west end of Ottawa. At Shirley's Bay the feeding station was once again
dominated by PINE SISKINS, but up to five COMMON REDPOLLS were also present, as
well as two male and one oddly brownis
The last birder left the area at 1500 hours. No sightings of the
Spotted Towhee all day.

Sorry Ontbirders,
I was so excited about the ultimate find of the Boreal Owl I forgot to mention
a more specific location. It was on Hwy. 45 about 1 km north of Dale Rd. in
Baltimore on the east side. Baltimore is just outside of Cobourg.

Traveling south on Hwy. 45 today at 11:30 am towards Cobourg I found a dead
Boreal Owl lying on the east side of the road. It had a superficial wound
(probably from a crow) but other than that it was in pretty good condition.

This morning I led about 18 hardy birders on an OFO birding trip in the Ottawa
area. On the upside, we had a crystal clear, sunny morning, with not a cloud
in the sky. On the downside, the wind was howling out of the north and
yielding windchills in the -35 degrees Celsius range! Nevertheles
