Good evening folks.
Just got back from a long day in the Carden Alvar and area and as usual when
we go up there we did quite well and saw and heard lots of birds. It started
out coolish with a 1 degree temperature but warmed up nicely later in the day.

This report is a day early as I am away starting tomorrow; just as well
given the large number of new arrivals this week. There was a Green Heron on
Amherst Island a week ago. The Collins Creek marsh on Unity Road had Am.
Bittern, Virginia Rail and Sora on Monday and a DU marsh near Camden East
had
Wednesday evening at ~6:45 there was a Prothonotary Warbler at the rear of the
BSC headquarters property in Port Rowan. We followed it from some willows
about halfway along the back lakeshore path, west to the bay lookout, where we
lost it in the tangled vines.

Although windy, Long Point was productive today, with many migrants to be found
in the sheltered areas of the provincial park. Thousands of White-throated
Sparrows filled the pine thickets, along with 200 Hermit Thrush, 300
Yellow-rumped Warbler, 75 Palm Warbler [including one ''Yel
Mark Breaks, my assistant, just found four Harlequin Ducks on the flat calm
lake out from the Observatory. They stayed just long enough for me to go
out and see them, after watching them for about five minutes they flew out
towards the open lake/Main Duck island. There were three males and one fema
Mark Breaks and I found a Worm-eating Warbler this afternoon in the woods
at Point Traverse. The birds was actively feeding on the abundant midges and
didn't sing. It didn't seem concerned with us and often approached us to
within 8 feet, it stayed about 10 feet up in the canopy most of the time. S

Today, April 29th, spent the morning birding the Chaffeys Lock/Opinicon Lake
Road area. Overall is was somewhat quiet likely due to the cooler temperatures
and few birds were singing at first but the activty level did pick up and we

My apologies for not posting this sooner (I was away from my
computer). While birding the Holland Marsh area yesterday I saw a
Snowy Egret (from the flight view I couldn't eliminate the possibility
of Little Egret, but I would be delighted to be corrected should it
turn
Bob Curry and Glenda Slessor phoned to report the Lark Sparrow was singing
and chasing other birds around this morning at 7:00 a.m.. near the barn on
Tyneside Road.
Directions

Hello Ontbirders.
Spring migrants are streaming into Rondeau Provincial Park. Birders have
reported a major influx in the last few days, including a variety of
warblers, vireos, flycatchers and thrushes. G
