If you are like me then these birds are often tough to get close to. But
today they were quite close to shore at Humber Bay West. There was a group
of 5 Redheads and a couple of Goldeneyes. Along with a Red Necked Grebe, an
American Wigeon, and a huge raft of what is probably Scaup (in
I thought that I should report that I did not see the gull at Port
Stanley harbour today. We arrived at 1PM and left just before 5PM.
During that time 2 fishing boats came in off the lake with few gulls
in pursuit. Seven other gull species were present including Little
(2), Lesser Black-bac

Good morning fellow birders. Sue spotted Mr. P feeding (in the adjacent
backyard at 20 Ascot)on the multiflora rose at approx. 07:30 where it stayed
until approx. 8:15 when it was driven off by the mockingbird. Where Mr. P went,
we don't know. I watched the mockingbird as it devoured the same
I observed a Barred Owl yesterday around 4pm on the edge of
a wooded area along Queensville Side Rd. It landed a low branch
of a poplar tree out in the open and stayed there for about 5 min.
before flying off into the deeper woods into some pines and spruce
trees.

Hello Birders,
The Eastern Screech-Owl is back on his perch in an old branch cut in a Maple
tree at the corner of Gibb and Laidlaw St. in Cannington.
The tree is on the south west corner on the lawn of 98 Laidlaw. The home
owners Jack and Wanda Owen are happy to welcome birders

Yesterday at noon the two male Barrow's Goldeneye were still frequenting the
Rideau River north of Hwy 417 near the Rideau Tennis Club. There in a flock of
60+ Common Goldeneye. Spent an hour towards dusk observing gulls coming in to
roost on the Ottawa River off Andrew Haydon Park.
The KFN ran a field trip to Wolfe Island last Sunday. There are lots of
waterfowl, nothing unexpected, but a flock of 1500 Redheads in Button Bay
was quite impressive. Also there are good numbers of Tundra Swans in almost
every bay in the Kingston area. Raptors were conspicuously absent; no
