Today, while paddling along Big Creek, I found several cliff swallows entering
and leaving nests below the bridge in Port Royal. There were approximately 30
intact nests under the bridge deck but it's difficult to say if all were active.
Further downstream, in the cattail marshes of the Big Cree
Chuck-will's-widow started singing at 9:13 p.m. Sunday, south side
Doyle Road. Very close, rich clear voice.
Directions
From Kirkfield take Kawartha Lakes Road 48 about 4.4 km east to
Kawartha Lakes Road 35 also called Victoria Road. Turn left, north,
for about 4.4 km to Doyle Road on rig
I missed the exit road from 400 it's the King Rd.

Last night between 9:00 and 9:30 pm, we had an extended listen to the
Chuck-wills Widow singing persistently on Doyle Road. The bird has a rich,
loud voice, contrasting with the Whip-poor-wills that sometimes overlap
calls with it. It seemed to be moving several times along the hydro right
of way
