Hello Ontbirders
I spent a few hours birding along the Ottawa River between Britannia and
Shirley's Bay this morning. With the cooler overnight temperatures and winds Nw
there was a small increase in shorebirds. I saw my first juvenile Least
Sandpiper, with a total of 12 at Shirley's Bay along

My Mom and I observed the Black-bellied Whistling Duck today from
10:30am-12:30pm. It was resting on the bank of the second pond when we
left.

Doug Lockrey and I birded Presqu'ile on Lake Ontario today. Our best
shorebird was an adult Baird's Sandpiper at Owen Point. Adults are rare
in southern Ontario while juveniles are much more frequent. The first
juvenile Baird's are expected in a week or two. The Baird's was with two
adult
Today at around 4:10 pm on McNaughton Rd in Vaughan, across from the Loews
Store ( 200 McNaughton Rd I think is the address) in the dirt area under
construction, there were at least 44 Killdeer, with more flying in the area.
McNaughton runs between Keele and Major Mackenzie.
Good birding.
At this time of year it is difficult, if not impossible, to know whether
some of the birds being seen at Presqu'ile Provincial Park are newly
arrived southbound migrants or simply birds that have wandered away from
a nearby breeding location. However, the remarkable concentration of
birds
Dave Wheeler and I stopped at Rock Point and nearby Mosiac Ponds this
evening (7/29) with the highlights from Rock Point being singles of
Short-billed
Dowitcher (juv.), Ruddy Turnstone, Black-bellied Plover, and White-rumped
Sandpiper amongst roughly 40 shorebirds total--most of being Least
7 matches
