It is a molting bird. The head is winter plumage, including the
chin strap. There is a large amount of white on its back.

Hi all. That first winter Purple Sandpiper was still active at Cobourg
Harbour later this afternoon, though it had moved over to the east
side of the breakwater near the lighthouse, using its very cryptic
coloration to stay quite inconspicuous among the rocks. Nice bird.

417 bridge, at 15h.00 this afternoon (7 Nov.).

We found a first winter Little Gull at Nichols Marina in Fort Erie this
afternoon.
Directions: Take the QEW to Fort Erie- take the Bertie Street exit and follow
it all the way to the end, and turn left onto the Niagara Parkway. The marina
is on the right.
