The 50th Long Point Christmas Count was held on Saturday, December 18th, 2010.
The weather that day was overcast with a low temperature of -8 Celsius and a
high of -2 with winds out of the west averaging 30 kph with gusts to 60 kph.
Forty-four observers tallied just over 29,000 individual birds

Rough-legged Hawk, and a wandering flock of Snow Buntings.
Gate to Rouge Park lies opposite Country Glen Road on the Markham Bypass.
A Northern Hawk Owl was reported yesterday by Ted Gardner on the Muskoka Bird
Board. We found the bird this morning in the same area, in the field east of
#1819 Falkenburg Rd., north-west of Bracebridge. At 10:45 a.m. it was perched
in a cedar tree
at the south side of Falkenburg Rd.
At 12:30 today I found an Eastern Phoebe along the Woodland trail south of the
visitor's centre at Point Pelee National Park. The bird was near the

These are the results of the Woodhouse CBC held on December 19th 2010. The
Woodhouse CBC is centered 7 km east of Simcoe, at Renton, in Norfolk County
and roughly covers from Port Dover to Waterford and just west of Simcoe to
Jarvis.
Weather
The weather this year was good, it was mostly
Hoary Redpoll numbers are growing in Marathon. We now have about a dozen
unambiguous male *exilipes* Hoary Redpolls at our backyard feeder. On
Saturday (January 8, 2011), a much larger male Hornemann's Hoary Redpoll
was present with at least one Greater Common Redpoll.

The Spotted Towhee continues to regularly visit the feeders at Long
Point. This morning I waited for almost one hour before the bird
appeared in the cedar hedge behind the feeders at the rear of the house.
This was at 12 noon.
There was a large flock of B.H. Cowbirds with a few RW Blackbirds

In a normal winter these two species would not be particularly noteworthy in
Ottawa however this is not a normal winter. Gull numbers are down
dramatically and the single immatures of Iceland and Glaucous that I saw today
(10 JAN) are my first of the year! A total of approx 20 gulls
...as seen by Ann Brokelman and myself around 1:30 p.m, sunning itself in a
tree on the north side of County Road 6, just west of a green gate.

The bird was west of Dalrymple, and on the north side of County Rd 6, east of
the junction with County Rd 46.
The following was posted to Geneseebirds, NY. The King Eider that Scott
Baron refers to was reportedly seen and photographed at Port Weller on 11

The 31st SCNWA CBC was held on January 1, 2011. The day began with a lot of
rain, fog and some wind as a result of the unseasonably warm temperatures over
the ice. The afternoon was somewhat better...at least the rain stopped by

Hi,
I don't know how rare this is but it case birders want to chase it I wanted to
get the word out: I found an adult male King Eider in St. Catherine's, Ont. at
approx. noon today. The bird was one of many waterfowl in a cove along Lake
Ontario. It was offshore maybe 150' from the trail. I

Pickering held its 58th Christmas Bird Count on Sunday January 2, 2011. A
total of 69 species were counted, well up from last year’s 62 species. The
number of individual birds tallied was 21, 606, an increase of 14% over our
previous CBC.

While watching several Common Goldeneye males and fifteen or more females, a
Barrows Goleneye male flew in to join them along the Rideau River between the
Rideau Tennis Club and Strathcona Park. This is likely the same bird that has
been reported before. The bird preened quickly and
