Hawk Owl just west of Low this morning (Friday) at 10h.15. Location as in

Spent a very nice afternoon birding Ashbridges Bay Park in Toronto with Bruce
Kirkland.
We manged to refind the female harlequin off the southeast point of the park.
Also - Hermit Thrush near west point of the park, Peregrine Falcon dive-bombing
gulls, 4 x Kumliens Iceland Gull and a small floc
I had a quieter outing yesterday to the Lawson Tract where
winter feeders abound, amply and regularly stocked by the dedicated Ingersoll
Nature Club. Trying to capture pics of darting nuthatches, downies, juncos,
tree sparrows etc is always a
challenge and despite a racket of crows at the back
Gerald Donnelly who lives near Mono Road in the north end of Peel County,
reports seeing a Golden Eagle on his farm today. The bird has been seen locally
for a few days, at one time feeding on a Wild Turkey.

Both the bill and the legs are solid yellow.

all though the Slaty-backed gull on the ice in Whitby harbor. Dos have
Streaking on the head and neck, pink legs(???) and about equal size to herring
gulls. it wood seem to be lacking the under wing markings !! as seen in some
great photos that wear tackin today ..
this is not saying it is a LB
Eight birders studied the gull at Whitby harbour over the past hour. It was
much closer than the day it was first observed, but still spent most of its
time sleeping and behind other gulls. However it eventually came out into the
open and offered good looks. Some of the features being observed m

On Wed, Jan. 26 around 2:00 p.m., we saw a mixed flock of 50 Horned Larks,
about 100 Snow Buntings and 12 Lapland Longspurs in a field eating corn.
Directions: QEW Hamilton take Centennial Parkway, Hwy 20 south, go straight
onto Reg Rd 56, until you come to Empire Corners. Turn righ
There is a good candidate for Slaty-backed gull on the ice in Whitby harbour.
Streaking on the head and neck, pink legs and about equal size to herring
gulls. Could be a hybrid but it is currently one of two dark-mantled gulls in
the flock and thus easy to spot.

The winter listers locally are finding some good birds despite the deep snow
and some very frigid temperatures. There was a Great Blue Heron at the Kingston
ferry dock on Wednesday, 10 Rusty Blackbirds near the Glenora ferry on Monday,
15 Red-winged Blackbirds on Amherst Island and 10 Am. Robin
Hello Birders,
Just to follow up on recent reports of the Black-legged Kittiwake in Windsor, I
saw it yesterday at 4pm. It was about 30-40m from the shore. I managed to take
a
few photos (in poor light). I did not see the King Eider but didn't really scan
for it.
